Bridging The Gap is a collaborative album that is bringing together one of the legends in hip-hop history, Chubb Rock and breakthrough artist/underground emcee Wordsmith.
This groundbreaking project began when Chubb Rock asked this talented unsigned artist to be involved in this comeback collaborative album after working together on a track called “Block Party Bonanza”, which can be found as an iTunes exclusive on Bridging The Gap. Chubb Rock refers to himself as representing the “Golden Era” whereas Wordsmith is representing the “New School”. The album is able to successfully and artistically blend and fill the “gap” of old age and new age hip-hop.
Chubb Rock is a New York-based rapper who has previously released several commercially successful hip-hop albums in the early 1990s, and several singles that topped #1 on Billboards “Top Rap Single” chart. Some of these hits include “Just The Two of Us” and “Treat Em’ Right”. He has since released several notable singles, made appearances on albums with artists such as K'Naan and eMCeeM, and is using this album to rocket his return to the game. Chubb is also active on the radio waves with his own syndicated radio show, and is also found frequently working with radio personalities such as Steve Harvey, Mike Baisden and Big Tigger.
Wordsmith, whose father was an Army Colonel and was frequently relocated as a child, found rap to be a powerful constant throughout life. Starting out in the mix-tape circuit, it’s rare to find a mix-tape of album quality. However, Wordsmith has been able to consistently achieve this on his self-dubbed mix-albums, first receiving attention with a Notable Selection in 2005 from MTV’s Mix-tape Monday’s. Wordsmith has also been active worldwide writing music for video games, entering into marketing deals, and working on solo albums. He remains active in the mix-tape circuit as he is steadily blowin' up the college-radio airwaves, and most recently, is syndicating his own worldwide podcast, "Revolt Radio", bringing in over 100,000 subscribers in 48 weeks.
The album includes such tracks as “Back In”, which showcases Nu Revolution producer Strada's relaxed boardwork and features artist Kimia Collins’ soulful hook. The two emcees bring distinct brands of lyrical freshness to the table: Chubb channeling his commanding rasp into compellingly freeform rhymes and Word showcasing his skills as a storyteller. The first single off the album, “Old 2 The New”, is being released to radio May 11th.
